Upon a mushroom

the frog reigns over the side yard
with compassionate governance over weed, tree, flower and herb.
Hosting raindrops and dew drops for bird and insect and dog.

Dog Psalm #39

Go into the woods.
The fern grotto beckons,
the wood pecker welcomes.
The deer's dainty trail leads the way
into the deep green mystery of being
where renewal and decay
each feed the other
and create the glorious, ever changing, universe.

Gardening

requires the proper tools
and attire
This is clearly not the proper attire for me.
Really?! Giant roses? You know better.
Nor is this!
Some kind of odd misshapen sombrero? Please.
I don't need no stinkin' hat.
I'm already wearing SPF 100. It's called fur.
Now into the garden! Plants - let me at 'em.

Hey Roy

So there was this big black lab down at the job site.
All day my people played with him.
"Here Roy. Down Roy. No Roy. Catch Roy. Good Boy Roy!"
Then his person called him to get into the truck -
"Come Smokey!"
Smokey?
Apparently his person had said "Here Boy"
and my people thought he said "Hey Roy."
Go figure.
But Roy is a good dog name.

Dog Psalm #38

'The rapture' did come.
Heaven is on earth
and open to all.

Bed Rest

It's been a rough week.
There's been so much stress
I had another bout of hemorrhagic gastro enteritis
and had to go to the animal hospital.
That nice Dr. Kelly said I should take it easy.
I think I'm feeling a bit better.
A little bowl of icy cold spring water and a milk bone
sounds good. If you don't mind.

Dog Psalm #37

Spring comes slowly.
But still it comes.

Fare Thee Well

Dearest, darling Dudley;
We will miss you dear girl.
Thank you for loving us through our hard times
and pointing us towards and sharing
the simple joys of so many days.
You are free now of the body that could no longer
serve your great and generous soul.
Your spirit rides the wind and brightens the sky.

Country Roads

Have you been to a fox's wedding?
I have. It's when it rains and the sun is shinning.
We took a car ride by the river near dusk
and were treated to a rainbow on the way home.

Dog Psalm #36

To rise with the sun and witness the tender break of day
is to know in your bones the vastness of your soul.

Make up

with me over my "make over".
These are just some of the tools
of torture they used to give me this
ghastly "shag". I think I prefer the 5 blade "pixie" I got last time.
You can begin your amends
by serving up cookies and meatly bones.
You'll know you are forgiven when the look in my eye softens.

Peepers

They sound like they are this big
as big as a toddler's tricycle
but the peepers are really barely as big as a human's thumb nail.
They are just incredibly loud with their joyful noise.
Hearty harbingers of Spring.

Dog Psalm #35

Heaven is not only above you.
It is within you, in the best of you.
Dwell in it. Share it.
