The wind is up

The grass is greener.
The flowers are out.
The roofers are at work.
Life is good.

Dog Psalm #35

Why is today more special than all the rest?
Because a rabbit brings candy?

That and the awareness of
the transformative and restorative power of grace:
be it rebirth, renewal or resurrection;
a sigh of relief, a moment of peace.
May they be yours.

Every Day is Earth Day

Be kind to the environment.
It's awfully nice to us.

Pinecone Pets

Even the woodland creatures have pets.
Because everybody needs a friend
who is steadfast, loyal and true.

Simple Pleasures

On this rainy Spring day
it is still cool enough to enjoy
the flannel sheets and comforter.
So I indulge in a lounging that will last the whole day -
listening to the music of the rain drops and wind
and rising only for snacks.

Dog Psalm #34

"Sit like a mountain.
Sit with a sense of strength and dignity.
Be steadfast, be majestic, be natural and at ease in awareness.
No matter how many winds are blowing,
no matter how many clouds are swirling,
no matter how many lions are prowling,
be intimate with everything and sit like a mountain."

Wood Sprites

In my mind's eye I can see them
Awakening in their forest beds
and making preparations for
 the celebration of Spring.

As the snow mold recedes

I dream of Spring,
sweet April in another climate zone.

Dog Psalm #33

The hum and thrum of Spring is this morning's melody.
A cobalt sky hugs the granite mountains and kisses the tree tops
gently coaxing tender green buds onto brown limbs.
Come. Come.
The patchwork of snow recedes
and the deer emerge from the edge of the woods
to prance in the golden pastures, flashing their tails;
while the robins search for the worms.
A demonstration and display of
joy in the business of living.

Sunflower Seed

It looked like a sunflower seed above my eye.
But it was a dreaded wood tick.
Still snow on the ground and already with the ticks.
In focus it looks pretty ghastly.
This fuzzy photo just gives you a sense of the irritation.
But I'm strong - I let them dig around
for the head with tweezers and a pin.
And now I'm wearing Frontline - the canine Chanel.

On Sunday Mountain

cotton candy snow covers the trees,
beneath the marshmallow snow
(so many, many kinds of snow)
walnut rocks are sprinkled across the landscape
and the road, with a melt, is soon to be a river of muddy chocolate
Oh my delicious Sunday Mountain.

Dog Psalm #32

To see things as they are, to see the changing nature,
to see the impermanence, to see that the constant flow
of pleasant and painful events are outside our control -
that is freedom.
